Rudy began playing drums at the age of seven, encouraged by his parents who were both musicians. He studied jazz, Latin, and classical percussion at the Drummers Collective, the New School, and the Westchester Conservatory of Music. After high school he earned a scholarship to the New England Conservatory of Music where he completed his degree in Jazz Percussion.
As a performer, Rudy has recorded and shared the stage with artists including Baron Raymonde, Dave Fields, Dave Mann, Gil Parris, John Tropea, Nick Morock, Soozie Tyrell, and Vaneese Thomas. He toured nationally as the drummer for the Bruce Springsteen tribute band Tramps Like Us, performing at legendary venues such as BB King’s Blues Club in New York City, The Stone Pony in New Jersey, Yogi Berra Stadium, and Boulder Stadium. He has also shared the stage with America, The Marshall Tucker Band, REO Speedwagon, Foghat, The Yellowjackets, and Spyro Gyra.
Alongside his performing career, Rudy has built a strong reputation as a dedicated music educator. He has taught percussion at Mercy College, Bronx House Music School, Febbraio School of Music, Children’s Village, and Edgemont Public Schools. Many of his students have gone on to attend top music programs and perform in New York All State and All County ensembles.
Today, Rudy maintains a thriving private teaching practice. He works with children, teens, and adults, from beginners learning their first beats to advanced drummers preparing for professional opportunities. He also has extensive experience teaching students with disabilities, using drumming to improve coordination, focus, and motor skills. For adults and seniors, his lessons provide a fun and engaging way to stay mentally and physically active.
Rudy offers lessons in his Westchester studio, in students’ homes, and virtually through Zoom and FaceTime, giving students across the world access to his teaching. His approach emphasizes rhythm, technique, musicality, and confidence, while creating a supportive environment where every student can grow at their own pace.
Whether you are just starting out, preparing for auditions, or returning to music later in life, Rudy Feinauer provides the knowledge, structure, and encouragement to help you achieve your goals.
