Drum Lessons in White Plains, NY: A Straight Guide for Parents and Adults

If you are looking for drum lessons in White Plains, you have plenty of choices in central Westchester. I am Rudy Feinauer, a drum teacher based in nearby Ardsley. I am a New England Conservatory graduate with more than 35 years of teaching, and I work with students across the county in person and online.

For kids, teens, and adults picking it up late

Most of my students are kids and teens, but a good number are adults in the White Plains area who always wanted to play and finally started. There is no wrong age to begin. Lessons are built around what you actually want to work on, not a one size fits all book.

In person in Ardsley, or online

Ardsley is a short drive from White Plains, and my studio has a full kit set up, so you do not need one to start. I also teach live over Zoom and FaceTime, which suits busy schedules.

What drum lessons cost

My private lessons start at $50 for a 30 minute session, with 45, 60, 90, and 120 minute options as a student grows. The first lesson is always free, with no commitment, so you can see if it is a fit before you pay anything.

Does your child need a drum set to start?

No. A practice pad and a pair of sticks are all that is needed for the first several months, and a pad is quiet enough that nobody in the house gets a headache. Students use a full kit during lessons, and we can talk about buying a set later, once the interest is clearly there.

NYSSMA and school music near White Plains

Many White Plains area students play in school band or take a NYSSMA solo. I am a former NYSSMA adjudicator, so I know what the scoring sheet rewards: steady tempo, clean dynamics, and confident sight reading. If your child has an evaluation coming up, I build a prep plan around the piece and the date.
